German group Allianz does not intend to sell Allianz-Tiriac, the leader of the local insurance market, and the most valuable company in this field. After this year was the liveliest in terms of transactions on the insurance market, foreign groups seeking to enter the Romanian market have nothing more to buy, with the only companies that could be sold within the next few years being the small ones.
"None of the shareholders is thinking about selling, this is a long-term investment, and we will be present here for several generations," says Klaus Junker, chief executive officer of Allianz New Europe, who holds around 52% of the company's shares, and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Allianz-Tiriac. Businessman Ion Tiriac controls 44% of the company via offshore company Vesanio Trading, with the rest of the shares belonging to some of the company managers.
The Allianz group entered the local market almost eight years ago, when it bought half of Ion Tiriac's shares from the former tennis player. The price paid then was 12 million dollars, which puts the company's entire value at 24 million dollars.
In the meantime, the company's value increased around 40 times.
If Allianz-Tiriac shareholders decided to sell, the price could amount to around 880 million euros, if we consider the price at which the latest transactions in the insurance sector have been concluded, and that the company is No. 1 on the market.
The company forecasts almost 440 million-euro turnover for this year. The biggest transaction concluded so far, the sale of Asiban, was sealed at a price of almost 2 euros per 1 euro of turnover.
Junker has not given an evaluation of Allianz-Tiriac, but said that the price can fluctuate from one year to the next. "When we closed this deal, we were convinced it was a very good deal for both parties involved. If the company's value has increased significantly over the last few years, it is a good thing for both owners, as well as for the clients," he explained.
