At least half the works of Alpine Romania, the local subsidiaryof Austrian constructions group Alpine, could consist of roadinfrastructure works this year, said Ionel Giuglea, the company'sgeneral manager.
Alpine's contract portfolio therefore shifts focus to contractswith the state, considering that the two ministries responsible forthe Romanian road network, the Ministry of Transportation andInfrastructure, and the Ministry of Regional Development andTourism, have announced tenders for hundreds of kilometres ofmotorway and thousands of kilometres of county and local roads. "Ifa minister goes public and says they want to build motorways, itwould be reckless of you to take a risk for four years, theminister's assumed term in office, and not consolidate thatsegment" Ionel Giuglea, general manager of Alpine Romania, thelocal subsidiary of Austrian group Alpine, told ZF in an interview. The company, which posted 80-85 million euros in turnover in 2010,has built one of the most expensive office projects in Romania,Petrom City, worth 130 million euros.
