French industrial group Alstom, one of the largest providers of power generation services and equipment, with turnover worth 17 billion euros, will build a 150 million-euro plant near Bucharest by mid-2010. The plant would manufacture equipment for "local power generating companies", said Alstom representatives. The announcement comes one day after Procter & Gamble, the consumer goods giant, announced a 100 million-dollar investment in a plant in Urlati, near Ploiesti. The Alstom investment is the first investment of this size to be conducted on the Romanian market by a company in this field, although companies such as Siemens and General Electric are also present in Romania. "Starting with 2010, local energy producers will have access to the latest technology available in Europe. Production will take place in a plant near Bucharest, which is due to be completed by mid-2010. The overall investment exceeds 150 million euros, and will be carried out by Alstom Power Romania," added local representatives of the French group, without providing further details on the type of equipment to be produced or on the specific location of the plant.
