Astra sees nine-month income rise four times to 4.3m euros

Astra Asigurări, the biggest insurer, owned by businessman DanAdamescu, in the first nine months of this year derived net incomeworth 18m RON (4.3m euros), four times higher than a year ago,while the volume of gross underwritten premiums advanced by 37%, to841m RON (201m euros).


In the third quarter alone, the company sold policies worth 260mRON, up 30% from a year ago. The net income for the July-Septemberperiod stood at 7m RON, compared with a 1.2m RON loss in the thirdquarter of 2009.
During the nine-month period, the largest part of underwrittenpremiums, namely 655m RON, was registered on the car segment, wherealmost 70% were auto liability (RCA) policies.
"We grew on all market segments and we're trying to diversify ourportfolio, but given the difficult economic period mandatorypolicies are the best-sellers. This is starting to be seen on thehome insurance segment as well, but voluntary policies also sellvery well, on this segment, too," Radu Mustăţea, chairman of AstraAsigurări board, told ZF.
