The opening of the Basarab Overpass in Bucharest in a month'stime, in April, is conditioned on the weather, say its builders -Italy's Astaldi and Spain's FCC Construction, after Sorin Oprescu,mayor of Bucharest, said a few days ago that the overpass would beopen for traffic in a month's time at the latest.
The overpass, which will connect the south-west of Bucharestwith the north of the city over Dâmboviţa and over the railwaytrack, is of strategic importance for the city's roadinfrastructure, but the cold weather does not allow for concrete tobe poured at the moment, which would be one of the last stages ofthe building work.
"Work is still under way, although we are not working on pouringconcrete because of the weather, but other connecting work is beingdone. The activity has not been suspended, but the inauguration ofthe overpass in a month's time is conditioned on the weather, afterthe strength of the cables is tested (...)," representatives of theAstaldi - FCC Construccion partnership told ZF.
