Best Western, largest hotel chain

20.03.2008, 20:08 10

Best Western is set to become the largest foreign hotel chain on the domestic market, after the group integrates three hotels in Baia Mare, Zalau, and Hunedoara, which will take the overall number of hotels to 12.
"We currently have nine hotels affiliated to the Best Western chain, but will soon add another three. Best Western will therefore become the largest international chain in Romania, with in excess of 1,000 rooms," said Malin Malineanu, development coordinator of Best Western Romania.
Other international chains that operate in Romania include Ramada, and Golden Tulip, which also compete with local chains such as Unita Turism and Continental.
Best Western's three new locations, in Baia Mare, Zalau and Hunedoara, are held by companies that are part of the SIF Banat-Crisana portfolio, and will be given three-star ratings.
"Altogether, the three hotels will total more than 200 rooms, but are currently being reconfigured and refurbished. By mid year, they will probably be affiliated, and have become part of the centralised reservation system," Malineanu said, adding that SIF Banat-Crisana also has another project in Oradea that could eventually become affiliated to Best Western.
The current nine Best Western hotels are located in Arad, Bucharest, Gura Humorului, Cluj, Constanta, Resita, Timisoara, Lacul Sfanta Ana and Sibiu, where Fantanita Haiducului has recently opened, with a business last year worth more than 12 million euros.
The launch of three new hotels should take the chain's business to 15 million euros this year.
