Bucharest lawyer earns over 2 million euros a year

The highest paid lawyer in Bucharest officially earned more than 7 million RON (about 2 million euros) in 2006, according to data ZF received from the General Directorate of Public Finance in Bucharest.
He is registered as a taxpayer in sector 6 of Bucharest, and paid 1.13 million RON (more than 320,000 euros) in taxes from his gross income in 2006, which left him with a net income of 5.96 million RON (1.69 million euros).
Compared with a breakdown of incomes by profession in 2005, law left the notary business behind in 2006, and snapped up the top position among the best-paid liberal professions in the capital city, being the best-represented professional category among the top five moneymaking liberal professions.
The second highest earner of non-salary income registered with the tax authorities is again a lawyer, but this time based in sector 5, whose gross income stood at 1.49 million euros. Net income in 2006 stood at 1.25 million euros.
Notary business ranks third, thanks to a taxpayer that earned more than 1.34 million euros in sector 6. After he paid his taxes in 2007, this individual had 1.12 million euros left.
Next two positions in the ranking are occupied by two lawyers again, this time based in the first sector, who posted 1.19 million euro and 1.09 million euros in net incomes.
The highest income in 2005 of all those in the freelancing business in Bucharest had been earned by a notary based in the first sector, 4.8 million RON (1.32 million euros). Law came second, but was still among the top five, with three people.
Gross average salary in the economy stood at 1,146 RON (326 euros) in 2006, and the net average salary stood at 1,099 RON.
Notaries occupied about 70% of the positions of the highest three incomes derived from liberal professions in 2005, according to the National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF) data.
The best-paid notary in Romania earned more than 45,900 euros a month in 2005, which is a total of more than 550,000 euros a year. The notary in question was registered in Cluj and paid taxes worth almost 105,000 euros from his gross income.
Despite high incomes, notaries were not among the top ten best-paid liberal professions in the country in 2005, where lawyers accounted for most of them.
Best-paid lawyer in Romania earned 153,453 euros in net amount per month in 2005, which is a total of almost 1.85 million euros a year. He was registered in the first sector of Bucharest and paid 350,000-euro taxes.
The data about the incomes made from liberal professions in Bucharest in 2007 have not been centralised yet.
