Closer to home means 17-30% higher price compared with big stores

15.07.2010, 23:01 9

Snacks and products bought on impulse are around 17-30% moreexpensive in a small convenience store than in supermarkets orhypermarkets, shows a ZF analysis based on prices of 15 of thebest-selling products in stores. Why do small stores lose out inthe price battle with supermarkets?
In the retail dominated by foreign store chains, the shelf pricehas been the most effective weapon in the fight over market sharein the past year, so customers' wallets are increasingly lesslikely to feel the price difference between a discount store, asupermarket, and a hypermarket. Small convenience stores, operatedby local entrepreneurs, have however remained outside of thisbattle.
