Delisting prospects make RASDAQ peak

07.08.2003, 00:00 8

The shares of certain companies traded on RASDAQ and set to be delisted by yearend, such as Sidex, Brau Union or Moldocim Bicaz have contributed a great deal to the all time highs of the RASDAQ-C index in the last two weeks. The index, which reflects the performance of all the shares traded on this market, reached a new high on Tuesday. It amounted to 1,157 points, 0.1% higher than in the previous day. The previous high had been registered last October, when the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) peaked, as well. The Stock Exchange has outrun RASDAQ this year, as the BET and BET-C highs were reached early last month. RASDAQ-C has gained 10% since the beginning of the year, close to the gain of BSE's BET. Even though the majority of the companies to be delisted have not had a spectacular performance since the beginning of the year, most of them are large entities and any change in their prices shows in the trend of the indices. RASDAQ's capitalisation, which amounts to about $2.3bn at the moment, is expected to sag by yearend due to the companies to be delisted. ZF
