Deutsche Bahn negotiates acquisition of Romtrans

Romtrans, one of the top three players on the transport and delivery market, which posted an around 80 million-euro turnover in 2006, is in talks to sell with Schenker, according to sources from the market. Schenker, with business worth over 13 billion euros, is a part of DB Logistic, the transport and logistics division of Deutsche Bahn, the largest railway company in Europe. At the end of last year, Romtrans shareholders decided to attract a strategic investor into the company. According to Trade Registry data, Romtrans' shareholders since the privatisation in 1994 are its employees and management. If carried through, the transaction will be a first on the local transport market. The only deal conducted so far on the goods transport market has been the entry of the investment fund Balkan Accession Fund (BAF) among the shareholder structure of the Edy Spedition group, however the value of the stake acquired was not disclosed. Romtrans has around 1,500 employees and a network of warehouses that covers 64,000 square metres and platforms that cover 230,000 square metres, according to information available on the company's website.
