Atlantic Restaurant System, operator of the Burger King franchise, has opened the chain's sixth restaurant on the Romanian market and its first outside Bucharest, in the Tom shopping centre in Constanta, the company announced on Wednesday. The restaurant is located in the food court area of Carrefour (Tom) shopping centre and covers 120 square metres, with company officials expecting around 1,000 transactions per day, reveals an Atlantic Restaurant System release. The average investment in a Burger King restaurant is of around 500,000 euros, with the sum varying in terms of position and area. Atlantic Restaurant System announced at the end of last year that it intended to open ten fast food restaurants in 2009, following investments worth around 5 million euros. This amounts to an upward revision of the company's expansion plan in Romania, considering that, when the first Burger King restaurant opened in Romania in April 2008, the president of Atlantic Restaurant System, Marius Nasta, said that the company intended to open ten restaurants by the end of 2009, with four openings planned in 2008. The company could hire around 350 staff in 2009 in the upcoming restaurants. Atlantic Restaurant System intends to open 50 Burger King restaurants in the next five years.
