23.05.2007, 18:15 10

In the first two months (February and March) since launch, sales of Windows Vista licences on the local market were five times higher than those recorded by Microsoft in October 2001, when the company launched its Windows XP operating system. "About five times more Windows Vista licences were sold in the first two months in Romania after the launch, as compared with the sales seen two months after the launch of Windows XP," Tudor Galos, Product Manager at Microsoft Romania, told ZF. He declined to elaborate on the number of Windows Vista licences sold on the local market. The only company to have supplied figures regarding its Vista sales on the local market is Flamingo International, the second largest retailer of home appliances and IT&C products in Romania, which says it sold over 4,000 Windows Vista licences. The figure includes both licences sold with a new PC (OEM), and those sold separately, as retail packages. Flamingo did not elaborate on the types of packages sold, but says, "A big part of these licences were sold along with new PCs". As for the Vista version preferred by consumers on the local market, Tudor Galos adds that there was a high demand for the top of the range Vista, which includes a 3D graphic interface.
