Generali turnover slightly down, but profit doubles

09.08.2010, 23:57 11

Generali, one of the top ten insurers on the Romanian market, ended the first half of the year with 234.4 million RON (56.5million euros) in gross underwritten premiums, down 4.4% againstthe similar period of last year.

On the other hand, the company's net profit doubled, to 18.9million RON (4.6 million euros) at the end of June.
The turnover decline in the first six months of the year wasprompted by the trend of the general insurance segment, withunderwritten premiums down by 5.7%, to 189.1 million RON (45.6million euros), because of the decline of comprehensive autoinsurance, which fell by 17%, to 80.8 million RON.
"Unfortunately, comprehensive insurance continues to be affected bythe significant decline of the auto and of the leasing market. Weare trying to offset this via attractive promotional campaigns fornew products, as well as for existing products," says MarieKovarova, general manager of Generali Asigur`ri.
