Giant H&M enters Romanian market with stores in Plaza, Unirea, and Bucureşti Mall

Swedish clothing retailer H&M, with 10 billion euros inturnover in 2009, will open its first stores in Romania in thespring of next year, choosing to enter the Romanian market throughBucharest's oldest shopping centres - Unirea Shopping Center,controlled by the Adamescu family, and malls Bucureşti Mall andPlaza Romania, owned by Turkish-held Anchor Grup.
The Swedes are for the time being only talking about a mall locatedin western Bucharest, Plaza, but the other two contracts are alsoin the course of being signed, according to ZF information.
"This is right, we confirm today that Romania is one of H&M'snewest markets, starting in the spring of 2011. H&M has signeda contract for the first store in Bucharest, Romania. We will opena store in one of the biggest shopping centres in Romania, locatedin western Bucharest. It is still too early to give further detailsabout the store," H&M representatives told ZF.
The Swedes are expected to open an around 1,400 square-metre storeon the ground floor of Plaza Romania, where the first Zara storewas opened in Romania six years ago.
