In its rush to cut spending, the Government wants to cutpensions and salaries but ignores the fact that secretaries ofstate within ministries are paid at least 1,000 euros permonth.
In Romania there are at least 300 secretaries of state, if addingup employees that hold such titles in ministries, in the PrimeMinister's office, heads of agencies, and state advisors workingfor the Presidential Administration.
The state pays 3 million euros per year for salaries of statesecretaries alone, considering that their number, as well as thenumber of employees subordinated to them, should have been halvedsince the beginning of the year, as the head of Government Emil Boccommitted to do.
Each public sector employee holding the title of secretary of stateearns 4,489 RON (over 1,000 euros), to which perks are added. Arough calculation reveals that the state spends at least 3 millioneuros for this category alone, while the amounts allocated for theapparatus of every state secretary can be ten times higher becauseeach secretary of state has got an assistant, a driver, advisors, uses a state-issued car, and receives money for travel and otherexpenses, all of which add to the actual salary.
