The Government allocated 3.2 billion RON (800 million euros) inthe 2011 State Social Security Budget (BASS) for payment ofpensions to military and police personnel, as well as to formeremployees of secret services, yet it has no idea how much money (ifany) it saved with the recalculation of these "special pensions",which used to be confidential until recently. The Governmentannounces the number of special pensions (of military, police andsecret service personnel) for the first time - 156,000.

Labour Minister Ioan Botiş says he was not informed of theamount of pensions paid to such beneficiaries thus far, thereforehe has no way of estimating whether pension recalculation led tosavings or not. Only that the Government anticipated it would beable to save hundreds of millions of euros year as a result ofpension recalculation.
"I have to say that I do not know, either. We got an amount and putit in the budget to be able to pay these pensions," Botiş toldZF.
