Govt. wants 2bn euros from EIB

10.10.2003, 00:00 9

The Government will submit to the European Investment Bank (EIB) a two-billion euro project portfolio, set to be included in a three or four-year strategy, Public Finance minister Mihai Tanasescu said. "This is a proposition we will make as a result of talks with other ministries. The projects we are now considering mainly target infrastructure, environment and agriculture," Tanasescu said. The Finance minister was in Luxembourg for an official visit of a delegation headed by PM Adrian Nastase throughout October 7-8. The two Romanian officials on Wednesday met with EIB chairman Philippe Maystadt. EIB is one of the most important fund providers for the investments in Romania, with 38 projects worth some 2.7bn euros in its portfolio so far. Romania ranks second among Central and Eastern European countries in terms of loans received from the EIB, after Poland. ZF
