Lists of the incomes earned by the employees in the publicsector continued to be published on the official websites ofinstitutions yesterday, making anomalies in the salary paymentsystem obvious.
For instance, Health Minister Attila Cseke can be regarded as apoorly paid official, if comparing his April income with that ofthe ministry's deputy secretary. The minister's salary slip shows5,361 RON, while his subordinate made almost twice that amount,9,739 RON. The general secretary of the ministry was paid 7,693RON. In all, the Health Ministry has fourteen employees that earnmore than Minister Attila Cseke does.
Four of the drivers employed by the ministry earn over 2,000RON, much to the envy of the employees of other ministries, such asthose at the Environment Ministry. A low ranking specialist'ssalary there starts at 498 RON and reaches 823 RON, while a driverearns 1,080 RON. The highest salary in this Ministry is EnvironmentMinister Laszlo Borbely's, who makes 5,361 RON, as do his fellowCabinet members.
The publication of such lists, however, is too small a step tounravel the maze of public sector salaries.
