The market of fast moving consumer goods could reach 20 billioneuros this year, a 10% decline on last year, with a Romanian'sshopping basket being 93 euros lower.
So, while a Romanian would spend 1,023 euros on average on fastmoving consumer goods in 2009, the salary cuts and the redundanciestook about 10% from the value of basket, leaving the budget atalmost 930 euros.
The value of this market is calculated based on sales of productsin supermarkets, hypermarkets, discount, and cash & carry storechains. Also included are small and big food stores, as well asconvenience stores, petrol stations, general stores, drugstores,perfumeries, pet shops and chemical shops, as well as sales on theon-premise segment (hotels, restaurants, coffee shops).
The major declines recorded in 2010 come as a result of themeasures taken by the government, which directly affectedconsumption.
