The market of fast moving consumer goods could reach 20 billioneuros this year, a 10% decline on last year, with a Romanian'sshopping basket being 93 euros lower.
So, while a Romanian would spend 1,023 euros on average on fastmoving consumer goods in 2009, the salary cuts and the redundanciestook about 10% from the value of basket, leaving the budget atalmost 930 euros.
The value of this market is calculated based on sales of productsin supermarkets, hypermarkets, discount, and cash & carry storechains. Also included are small and big food stores, as well asconvenience stores, petrol stations, general stores, drugstores, perfumeries, pet shops and chemical shops, as well as sales on theon-premise segment (hotels, restaurants, coffee shops).
The major declines recorded in 2010 come as a result of themeasures taken by the government, which directly affectedconsumption.
