How Romanian Mădălina Suceveanu came to be the first woman appointed CTO within France Telecom

Fourteen years after she was hired as a network expert atOrange, Mădălina Suceveanu was promoted to the highest technicalposition in the no.1 telecom company in Romania, and is the firstwoman in the France Telecom group to become Chief TechnicalOfficer.

Her joining Orange Romania's board two years ago, when she tookover as head of network development and implementation, a positionfrom which she interacted more often with the top management ofFrance Telecom and acquired a new vision of the business, are thefactors that played a key role in promoting her to the position ofchief technical officer of the company, Mădălina Suceveanu told ZFin an interview.

"When you are part of the Executive Board of Orange Romania youhave a different visibility of the business needs and the changesyou need to make in order to give support to the market," says theOrange official.

Hired as a network expert for what was a start-up with an unknownfuture - mobile phone company MobilRom (with the Dialog brand), inthe 90s, Mădălina Suceveanu steadily climbed the corporate ladder,which has become a giant with 10 million customers and a 10billion-euro business - one of the biggest companies in Romania inthe meantime.

Her promotion to a top management position was a move prepared inthe last two years and a half, which could have seen her end up ina similar position in any other country where France Telecom ispresent, Mădălina Suceveanu says.
