05.04.2010, 17:53 3

The around 100 large companies the NBR views as being of asystemic importance have not had problems in their relationshipswith commercial banks, despite their turnovers being seriously hurtby the economic downturn, but they resort to bank funding only to asmall extent, and therefore they will not play a major role inrestarting lending, either. These companies have transferred theircash flow problems to partners only to a low extent amid the crisisand have not generated major payment incidents as they did not haveoutstanding debts with banks, but they need to be closely watched, though, says Florian Neagu, head of the Macro-prudential Risksoffice of the NBR's Financial Stability Department. "Systemicallyimportant companies have had a better capability to cope with thecrisis than the rest of the economy. Though their turnovercontracted more than the average, their profitability was stillpositive. Their capacity to generate cash inflows remainedpositive, too," Neagu says.
