Medas has plans for 5m-euro hospital in Piaţa Victoriei

Medical services operator Medas is investing over 5 millioneuros in a hospital in the Piaţa Victoriei area of Bucharest, withthe facility to open at the end of 2011.

"The hospital will be designed for surgical specialties and willhave 40 beds," said Nicoleta Claudia Manu, deputy general managerof Medas.
The facility will employ 50 to 100 (contract workers included)people, with the company currently having over 400 employees.
The Medas hospital is not the first to be announced in the area.The Sanador network of clinics is set to open a 120-bed hospital ina rented building, but in the surrounding area there is already onesizeable Sanador clinic, as well as an Anima clinic.
In order to finance the hospital, Medas will use both its ownresources and external ones. As for the breakeven, Manu said itdepends on the progression of the economy, but it could be reachedwithin three to five years.
"Until the end of 2009 revenues from the House (National HealthInsurance House i.e.) accounted for 60%, while the rest wereaccounted for by the private sector. Following a policy change, ourtarget is now for the percentage generated by the private sector toexceed that from the House," Manu added.
According to Trade Registry data, Centrul Medical Med-As posted19.3 million RON (4.5 million euros) in turnover last year. Themedical services provider is controlled by Simona and Abd HalalAteia.
