Mutual funds outstrip inflation in February

23.03.2005, 00:00 11

Open investment funds in February derived 2% average yields, superior to yields on the banking market and above the level of inflation, which last month stood at 0.6%. The volume of net assets belonging to funds rose at the same time by 2.1% month-on-month to over 5,120 billion ROL (140 million euros).

There were large increases in assets reported by funds with equity placements, which continued to be the main focus of investors last month in the hope of procuring high yields.

The best growth was seen by equity and diversified funds, which took full advantage of the capital market growth in February. The fund with the best yields in February was Omninvest with 14.6%, followed by Intercapital with 14.4%, both of which are equity funds. They were followed by the Capital Plus diversified fund, which saw an increase of 10.9%.

"The high yields in February were the outcome of growth on the capital market, as well as efficient portfolio management," said Andrei Negulescu, marketing manager with SIRA, the company that manages the Omninvest investment fund.

Omninvest enjoyed asset growth last month of 44.3% thanks to new subscriptions attracted from already existing investors, with its number of investors only 1.5% higher than in January. Intercapital, which is an equity fund managed by Certinvest, saw its assets increase by 40.7%, however, this was based on a 25% increase in the number of investors. "The performance of our funds in February is clearly linked to growth on the stock exchange," said Florin Toth, an analyst with Certinvest, which manages Intercapital and Capital Plus.
