31.08.2010, 23:52 13

Nokia Siemens Networks, one of the world's biggest technologyproviders for the telecom industry, will this year enter thedomestic energy market which, according to the company'srepresentatives, has a very high growth potential, with the companybeing already in talks with several electricity suppliers forcertain products and services.

"In the first half, around 9,000 cars were stolen in Romania. Itseems a high figure, but against the total number of cars of aroundfive million units, it is no longer as impressive. By comparison,in the energy system over 20% of total generated energy is beingwasted or stolen, which in money accounts for around 1.4bn eurosannually. These losses are partially recouped through the bills weall pay. Under the circumstances, though, as far as companies areconcerned, those unable to slash costs leave the market," saysDragoş Chivu, general manager of Nokia Siemens NetworksRomania.
One of the applications that is sure to appear on the domesticmarket as well in the following years are smart meters that arepart of an intelligent network concept, which has alreadymaterialised in many European countries.
Practically, the installation of a smart meter, doubled by aflexible tariff system can lead to lower costs for finalconsumers.
