One in two rooms in Mamaia is empty

Only half the hotel rooms in Romanian seaside resort Mamaia wereoccupied by tourists in June, with hotel operators collectingaround 10 million euros, 50% less than if the hotels operated atfull capacity, according to ZF calculations.

June saw 250,000 tourists spend their holiday in the best-knownRomanian seaside resort, according to data centralised by theAssociation for the Promotion of the Romanian Seaside until 27th ofJune, with the average accommodation rate per night being 40 eurosper person.

Around 10,000 tourists were accommodated in Mamaia hotels pernight on average, with the resort being able to accommodate anoverall 20,600 tourists, according to the same source.

"The situation in Mamaia and across the entire Romanian seasidecan be explained by the fact that Romanians have chosen moreattractive offers from hotel operators in Bulgaria and Greece. TheRomanian seaside competes with the Bulgarian one, with the latterseeing a rise in demand from Romanians thanks to all-inclusiveoffers," said Mircea Vladu, owner of Prestige Tours travelagency.
