Online import and export licences

24.04.2001, 00:00 11

The territorial offices of the Romanian Foreign Trade Centre (CRCE) could issue online export and import licences requested by the local companies, as soon as legislation in the field is enacted, according to a release of the Foreign Ministry (MAE).

The draft laws to regulate electronic commerce, procedures and personal data security for online transactions have already been submitted to Parliament. The most "advanced" draft law is the one about electronic signature, likely to be debated by the Chamber of Deputies plenum this week.

Foreign minister Mircea Geoana and state secretary Cristian Colteanu on Friday attended the opening of the first such representative office in Craiova. MAE will set up such points of information and assistance for local companies in Constanta, Oradea, Iasi, Pitesti, Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Hunedoara, Baia Mare and Brasov, as well.

Mircea Geoana grounded Craiova's having been chosen for the creation of the first regional CRCE centre on the fact that Dolj County had a powerful industry, while a series of companies based there were already co-operating with foreign firms. He mentioned Daewoo Automobile Craiova, considered very important for the industry in Dolj.

He added he would make the necessary approaches to contact one of the famous aeronautics companies, British Aerospace, to help Craiova-based Avioane SA establish a working economic relationship with the foreign producer.

The Romanian Foreign minister feels that something to encourage SMEs would also be welcome for improving ties with foreign partners and boost exports. He claims that setting up the new regional centre will provide SMEs with free consultancy on business issues, as well as free services.

Geoana says the Foreign Ministry is equally concerned with granting assistance and services to foreign economic missions, providing legislative basis, advertising for international tenders and attracting investments for local businessmen.
