The IMF on Wednesday had a meeting with five Romanian businesspeople, members of the Association of Romanian Businesspeople (AOAR), including Dinu Patriciu and Ion Alexandru Tiriac, who were asked to talk about the problems they're coping with and voice their own proposals to restart the economy. While the son of former tennis player Ion Tiriac believes the meeting was "cooperative and productive", Patriciu says that "did we send them home (the IMF delegation), we would stand to gain a lot," because "the IMF is a handicap". "One of my proposals is that all the state's minority stakes, owned through AVAS or RA-APPS to be put up for sale. (…)," Ion Alexandru Tiriac told ZF. Dinu Patriciu also talked about the sale of some assets, saying he believes efforts to draw in foreign investments and European funds need to be stepped up and the tax base has to be broadened. On the other hand, Patriciu talked about the need to change Romanian politicians' mentality, a change in the lack of which the economy cannot recover.
