Show of force from Rompetrol's Kazakhs: Think of what would happen if we closed Petromidia refinery

The Kazakhs controlling Rompetrol group maintain the state hadan aggressive attitude in its move to recoup the 570m-euro debtsfrom Rompetrol Rafinare (Petromidia) and that they are ready todefend themselves in case the matter reaches court.
Rompetrol representatives also hinted that because of thisunfriendly environment, the heads of the Astana group were alsomulling the option of closing the refinery.
Rompetrol yesterday organised a press conference during which thegroup's CFO, Dmitri Grigoriev, flanked by three of the mostpowerful business lawyers in Romania (Gheorghe Muşat, a partnerwith Muşat şi Asociaţii, Ana Diculescu-Şova, head of the litigationdepartment of NNDKP, and Ştefan Damian, a partner with Ţuca,Zbârcea şi Asociaţii law firm), tried to explain why Rompetrolgroup is a victim of state abuse, that it wanted to reach anamiable agreement with the Finance Ministry regarding bondrepurchase, but also that it was ready to defend itself in courtand even "defend its economic interests" by closing therefinery.
