State could collect nearly half a billion euros from the pollution tax and VAT in 2011

The new pollution tax, which came into force on January 1, andthe raised VAT (24%) could generate around 450 million euros inrevenues to the state budget, according to a ZF analysis.
Thus, considering an average tax of 400 euros for every new carregistered, the car market could bring nearly 50 million euros tothe state, to which another nearly 75 million euros would be addedfor second-hand cars, considering an average value of 500 euros ofthe tax. Therefore, revenues from the pollution tax could reach 125million euros this year, half as much as in 2007, when over 315,000new cars were sold in Romania.
Considering an average price of 12,000 euros (excluding VAT) fornew cars, the car market would contribute over 330 million euros toVAT revenues. Considering the new pollution tax, Constantin Stroe,vice-president of Automobile Dacia, expects this year to see thefirst significant decline of second-hand car imports, from nearly214,000 last year, to 150,000 units.
