28.01.2011, 00:13 13

Only one of the five proposals to modify the Labour Code made bythe Foreign Investors Council (CIS) and AmCham has been accepted bythe draft variant proposed by trade unions and employers'associations, which means there may not be any significant changesto the current legislation in the final version sent to theGovernment. The Labour Code, under public debate since December10th, was yesterday discussed by premier Emil Boc, representativesof trade unions and owners' associations, with the premieraccepting 17 of their proposals, and three still beingdiscussed.

One of the most significant as well as most controversialmodifications proposed to the Labour Code is to extend the trialperiod from 30 to 45 days for non-executive jobs and from 90 to 120days for executive jobs.
"This would be a very good step, because at top management level, you cannot ask someone to be highly performing after 2 or 3 months. After six months, however, the first results of a manager'sperformance can be seen," believes Mihaela Damian, country managerof executive search firm Spengler Fox, part of Irish group GraftonEmployment Group.
