The year that has just ended was supposed to play a major rolefor Romania's energy industry, with huge projects and majorreshuffle ideas being launched. Unfortunately, all the plans arestill on paper, so that 2011 is practically an extension for theprojects scheduled for completion or that were underway in2010.
Though the two energy giants, Electra and Hidroenergetica were dueto become operational in mid-2010, the tens of lawsuits filedagainst the move to reshuffle the national energy generation systemput the project off. Another major project delayed for this yearare the two 4bn-euro reactors of Cernavodă. Another postponedproject, which is now taking small steps, though, is the one of theover 1bn-euro station of Tarniţa-Lăpuşteşti.
In the area of projects worth billions of euros, but in the fieldof natural gas, 2011 is likely to be a crucial year for Nabucco, the only interconnection project likely to cut Europe's dependenceon Russian gas.
Besides these projects where the state plays a major role, one ofthis year's certainties is related to further investments in windfarms.
