Toyota Romania, importer of the Toyota andLexus brands, with the latter being the premium brand of theJapanese group, has kicked off a campaign of recalling 102 Lexuscars that could have problems with the electric system of the fuelpump and potential problems with the brake system, according tosources close to the company.
All the costs generated by these recalls are borne by themanufacturer, according to the quoted sources, who will not,however, reveal what these costs amount to.
In the first nine months of this year, Lexus sales declined bynearly 40%, to 24 cars, according to statistics of the AutomotiveManufacturers and Importers Association (APIA), with only one cardelivered in September, D-segment model IS. In 2009, the premiumdivision of the Japanese group sold 60 cars, down by nearly 70%,with the best-selling model being the RX SUV. This compares with atleast ten times higher sales for BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, thebest-selling premium brands on the Romanian market.
