No flat tax and VAT changes

26.09.2006, 20:05 7

Giovanni Ravasio, chief of Premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu's economic advisors, says the Finance Ministry will soon release the medium-term fiscal strategy, which maintains the flat tax and VAT at the same levels.
Ravasio also regards the budgetary policy's consolidation as a necessity, calling for a decrease in the deficits scheduled for 2006 and the following years. Although he thinks the economy is not currently overheated, Ravasio says the risk exists, because of too fast growth and of the soaring foreign deficit.
The medium-term fiscal strategy is based on maintaining the current levels of the flat tax and VAT and on the increase in property taxes, as well as on the introduction of environment taxes and taxes on agricultural revenues, Giovanni Ravasio told ZIARUL FINANCIAR. According to Ravasio, the Finance Ministry is currently putting the finishing touches on the fiscal strategy, as well as the spending strategy for the following years, namely the multi-annual budget planning, necessary after the EU integration.
"I don't know why the Finance Ministry has delayed publishing the fiscal strategy outline. But next year, following the EU integration, they will have to publish a convergence programme, including budgetary revenues and a medium-term spending strategy," Ravasio stated.
