Adrian Lustig says that business fills around 90% of his spare time

Adrian Lustig, one of the most remarkable playwrights and short story writers, entered the world of business in the '90s and in three years made one million dollars.
Adrian Lustig was one of the first domestic entrepreneurs, registering his firm on the 35th position in Bucharest only four months after the revolution, when he launched a software firm. In just several months he simultaneously started to build an apartment block on Calea Dorobantilor of Bucharest in a period when land prices were below 100 dollars/square metre, but way too high for domestic investors' purchasing power.
And as two fields of endeavour were not enough, Lustig also embarked on import activities, which, besides real estate and IT, were going to bring him the first million (in dollars) in 1993, when he ranked 47th among the richest Romanians.
Another business domain that attracted him, but did not bring him the expected gains, was the capital market, both the domestic one and the New York commodities one.
"When the Bucharest stock exchange was set up, I was among the biggest investors. I withdrew in a year before losing everything," says Lustig.
Gradually, he gave up import activities, the stock market and the IT industry.
After having finished a second block of apartments in 1994, in Primaverii, Lustig returned to literature in 2002. Nevertheless, he could not stay away from the world of business for long. "In 2006, I realised I was missing too many real estate opportunities," said Lustig.
Lustig, together with Cristian Sima, a former member of BSE board, Dan Pascariu, chairman of UniCredit Tiriac board, and a Slovenian investment fund, are now developing a housing project made up of 616 apartments in Doamna Ghica of Bucharest, in the wake of 73m-euro investments.
The project has an estimated profit margin of 25%, which could be revised depending on the number of projects finalised at the moment Romfelt Plaza, as the project is called, is delivered.
Lustig is not highly willing to talk about his wealth, stating only that it revolves around several million euros and it mainly consists of a number of rented apartments.
"Business fills around 90% of my spare time. (...)," says Lustig. However, there is another field he might return to: the capital market.
