06.06.2006, 00:00 6

In the 2005/2006 financial year ended in February, Agrana Romania, the branch of the Austrian group Agrana, posted a turnover worth 117.8 million euros, a 52.3% increase against the previous year, with the company producing about half of Romania''s sugar output. According to company representatives, Agrana produced over 282,000 tonnes of white sugar, from sugar beet, and raw sugar, from the total of 560,000 tonnes produced in Romania in 2005. Agrana intends to strengthen its position on the market by opening new logistic centres and by doubling the surface of land cultivated with sugar beet in the northern part of Moldova. As a matter of fact, according to company representatives, the growth in turnover was due to the modernisation of logistic centres in Tandarei and Roman last year, which prompted activity to become more diversified and more efficient. The company has an approximately 50% market share, with its customers including all the major multinational companies that are present on the Romania food production market. ZF
