Agrana unites operations

30.11.2004, 00:00 6

The leading company on the sugar market, Agrana Romania, is to bring all its operations together under the umbrella of Zaharul Romanesc. The move was prompted by the need to cut costs and improve efficiency. Danubiana Roman and Agrana Romania will merge with Zaharul Romanesc as absorbed companies. According to Agrana officials, over the last few years, more and more international sugar producers have chosen to produce and develop under a unitary legal structure and this trend is causing sugar producers in Romania to concentrate their resources. Agrana had a turnover of 68 million euros last year and accounted for more than 30% of the market. It estimates results will be even better this year. The top nine players in the sugar industry - Agrana Romania with its three facilities, Zaharul Oradea, Zaharul Ludus, Marr Sugar, and the factories in Liesti and in Calarasi - will soon start talks to split the production quotas allocated by the EU.
