Alpha Bank earns 134m euros after nine months

Alpha Bank Romania's operating income rose 77.7% in the first nine months of the year, compared with the same time in 2007, to 134.2m euros, while the pre-tax earnings went up 104.6%, to 47.8m euros, according to an announcement by the Athens-based parent bank. The volume of deposits attracted by the bank went up by 49% against the end of September 2007 and reached 1.485bn euros, according to a presentation made by the Alpha Bank group. The number of deposit accounts on the retail segment rose 34% against September 2007, to 337,000. The volume of credits granted by Alpha Bank Romania climbed 72%, from 2.346bn euros at the end of September 2007 to 4.029bn euros nine months into this year. Corporate credits advanced 63%, to 2.9bn euros at the end of September, which accounts for 72.5% of the overall loans granted by the bank.
