The first commercial offers for the inter-county and local calls are likely to be launched in April or May, as soon as the telecom operators close internetworking deals with RomTelecom, Alexandrina Hartan, National Communications Regulating Authority (ANRC) vice-president says. Internetworking entails linking the infrastructure of a new operator to the one of RomTelecom. "RomTelecom is already facing competition from other companies on the international call segment, while the mobile telephony operators cut their rates for this segment, as well. RomTelecom is now negotiating internetworking agreements with other operators, according to the benchmark offer presented early in February," Hartan said during the opening of the Ro Com Tel 2003 exhibition. The companies having started to provide international telephony services via prepaid cards after January 1, 2003 include PCNET, Euroweb and Globtel. Societatea Nationala de Radiocomunicatii (National Radio-communications Company - SNR), Telecomunicatii CFR and Atlas Telecom Romania have announced plans to provide services on this market segment, as well.
