Another four-star hotel in Cluj

21.04.2004, 00:00 16

Cluj-based company Transilvania Development, owned by several local businessmen, will invest 1.7 million euros in building a four-star hotel in Cluj-Napoca, slated to open for business this autumn. The hotel, which will be able to accommodate 80 people in 40 rooms will be located in the historical area of Cluj, near the city's Central Park and 300 metres away from the City Hall.

"The relatively easy access to the local administration institutions and to most of the financial institutions, but also the construction of the Brasov-Oradea motorway make this kind of hotel necessary, as it is mainly aimed at the businesspersons," Cristina Irimie, the company's general manager told Ziarul Financiar, the Transilvania Edition. According to the Transilvania Development official, the hotel's occupancy rate will reach 50-60 percent in the first year.

The eight-story building will spread on 3,850 square metres (with 450 square metres of built-up area). The rooms will have air conditioned, minibar, safe, TV set, international phones and Internet access. Moreover, one floor will be dedicated solely to non-smokers, whereas the hotel will also provide its guests with guarded parking area, a sauna, tanning beds, a massage parlour, a fitness area, and a conference room.

Cluj has only three four-star hotels (Vila Casa Alba, Onix and Rimini), but some of them are rather old and do not fully meet the international standards, although they have been renovated and upgraded. However, several buildings that are now under construction will also become hotels.

According to analysts, investments in the hotel industry will reach some $360m this year, including those properties where works will continue for another two-three years.
