Sfantu Gheorghe-based building materials producer Arcon, ownedby businessman Ioan Titeiu, states that should the expandedpolystyrene plant produce for all the rehabilitation projectsinitiated by the Regional Development and Tourism Ministry, just30% of the capacity would be covered. "If we produced the necessarypolystyrene for all the thermal rehabilitation projects announcedcountrywide, just 30% of the capacity of Sfantu Gheorghe line wouldbe used. We can manufacture polystyrene for 5,500 blocks of flats,in the context where authorities announced around 1,800 buildingswould be thermally insulated this year," states Ioan Titeiu, Arcongeneral manager. The company thus joins other producers on thismarket that state the funds earmarked for the thermalrehabilitation programme are too low to spur consumption ofthermo-insulating building materials. The company last yeargenerated turnover worth 86m RON (20.3m euros), down 11% as aresult of the falling sales prices and weakening demand forbituminous membranes.
