Gabriel Biris, 37, one of the highest-rated tax lawyers on the Romanian market has quit his position with Salans last week. Salans is one of the top five players on the business law market in terms of turnover in 2005.
Biris and two other important lawyers of the Salans office in Bucharest, Gelu Goran and Victor Constantinescu decided to leave the firm and establish their own business law practice.
"We confirm we did decide to leave Salans and establish a new law firm some time soon. We arrived at the conclusion together that we have the capability to take our career to a new level, and create a business law firm," Gabriel Biris told ZIARUL FINANCIAR.
He explained his and the other two lawyers'' departure was not caused by conflicts with Salans'' office management.
"As we understand, the 3 lawyers (non-partners), who were close friends while being colleagues at Salans, decided to test the waters to establish their own local firm in an expanding legal services market. While we regret their departure we can fully understand and respect their decision. We wish them well. For the Salans Bucharest office, this creates an immediate opportunity to formally act upon 3 or 4 new lawyer additions that we have been informally considering for some time," commented Obie Moore, a partner with Salans, who runs the Bucharest office.
"From the perspective of a large international law firm, departures of individual lawyers are not uncommon. As when such departures have occurred in other Salans offices, we are taking all measures necessary to ensure that we continue to have the highest level skills required in Bucharest to fully serve our wide range of blue chip clients," Moore added.
Gabriel Biris said the new law firm will be called Biris Goran Constantinescu and will have four founding partners, as the three newly resigned lawyers from Salans will be joined by Dan Visoiu, formerly with US firm Paul Hastings.
