Gecad and Softwin, two of Romania's largest software export groups, have opened offices in Mountain View California, Silicon Valley, USA - the largest collection of IT companies in the world and home to Google. Bitdefender, which recently broke away as a distinct legal entity from the Softwin group, currently has an office that employs 8 people, with their number to rise to 15-20 by the end of next year, stated company officials. The Mountain View office is now the global marketing centre for the Romanian data security producer and is headed by Beau Roberts, former marketing manager at rival company Trend Micro. "Being present in Silicon Valley is very important for an IT company that aspires to become a global leader. (...) Ever since we opened our Mountain View office, Bitdefender has managed to attract employees in key positions from rivals such as Symantec, Trend Micro and McAfee," said Beau Roberts. As for Gecad, it will invest 500,000 to 1 million dollars within the first year of opening its representative office in the USA. The office is run by Gus Lignos, Vice President of USA Sales, who will establish the sales strategy for Avangate, an e-commerce platform for distributors of software products in the region. "The executive and development centre has remained in Bucharest, and the technical, operational and sales teams here will continue to provide all the support that the new Mountain View team needs", said Iuliana Butuc Cerchez, corporate affairs officer at Gecad Group.
