Private medical services company Centrul Medical Unirea (CMU - Unirea Medical Centre) will invest 5 million euros next year in two large-scale projects, after the company budgeted investments worth 7.5 million euros for this year.
"For the next two months, we have planned the completion of a 6.5 million-euro investment in the largest diagnosis centre in the country, a six-storey building, located in Bucharest," said Wargha Enayati, managing director of Centrul Medical Unirea.
The company currently has centres in eight locations, two of which are to be expanded. The biggest location held by CMU, with a 1,000 square-metre surface area, will be located in the Pipera area of the Capital. "This year is a year of investments and expenditures, not a year of profit. Every three years, CMU gets an investment boost. We started out in 1995; by 1998 we had our first medical centre; by 2001 we had opened another two; along with a further three or four in 2004. This year, will see the opening of our already announced projects," said Enayati.
On June 1, CMU started its collaboration with Budimex hospital for paediatric care, after opening a medical and a surgery department. The company also works with a 99-partner clinic network throughout the country.
Currently, our medical centre network has 45,000 subscribers, without any of the centres working with insurance companies.
"We are not currently working, nor do we intend to work with insurance companies in the future. Subscriptions will continue to be attractive to companies," added Enayati.
According to company information, in the first half of this year, CMU posted revenues worth 3.5 million euros. For this year, the company has budgeted a turnover worth 7 million euros, compared with 5.5 million euros in 2006. In 2008, the company estimates a 9 million-euro turnover.
As the network expands, there will also be a rising need for medical personnel, which is increasingly hard to find. According to Enayati, at present, the level of medical personnel leaving Romania is more severe than last year.
"CMU has 130 full-time employees and 100 collaborators, however, for the coming period, we require at least another 50 medical staff and another 10 staff for the administrative departments," explained Enayati.
