09.06.2006, 00:00 10

Coca-Cola Romania, the domestic branch of the US-based The Coca-Cola Company, which handles the marketing of Coca-Cola products on the domestic market, made profit worth 21.9 million RON (6 million euros) in 2005, almost ten times higher than the figure reported in 2004.

The company''s turnover during this period stood at 45.7 million RON (12.6 million euros), almost double the figure registered at the end of the previous year, according to data published in the Official Gazette.

"Registered growth comes entirely from the Dorna business, a model appreciated in the Coca-Cola system," says Valentina Baicuianu, PR manager with Coca-Cola Romania.

According to the company''s representatives, the Dorna portfolio (Izvorul Alb, Dorna, Poiana Negri) last year increased sales by 17 percent in terms of volume from figures reported in 2004.

In 2004, Coca-Cola Romania posted turnover worth 24 million RON (6 million euros) and income standing at 2.2 million RON (540,000 euros). Coca-Cola Romania also started gradually coordinating marketing activities performed in Romania''s neighbouring countries. Last year, the Romanian branch became a regional centre for the Balkans after the marketing services of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and former Yugoslavian countries were merged.

After the Romanian branch became a regional centre, Coca-Cola Romania relocated to new headquarters last year, renting 1,200 square metres of space in the Bucharest Business Park office building.

Production and distribution activities for Coca-Cola are handled by the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CCHBC) Romania bottler, jointly owned by Greek and US shareholders.

CCHBC Romania last year posted 17% higher sales in terms of volume, reaching a total of 123 million unit cases sold on the domestic market, from 106 million in 2004. Last year''s pace of growth was double that of the previous year, when the company saw an 8 percent rise in the number of sold unit cases.

Coca-Cola competes on the domestic market with other companies such as European Drinks, Quadrant Amroq Beverages (Pepsi bottler), Romaqua, and Parmalat (Santal). The Romanian drinks market is estimated to be worth 500 million euros, but so far has been affected by cool weather this year. dana.ciriperu@zf.ro
