Ana Hotels, a company controlled by businessman George Copos, will invest between 1.5 and 2 million euros by yearend in order to expand and completely retool the kitchen of Crowne Plaza five-star hotel in Bucharest.
The hotel is witnessing rising demand on the food & beverage segment, as well as on the segment of events, hence the need to expand the kitchen space.
Crowne Plaza, located in northern Bucharest, has built a position particularly on the segment of banking events.
Recently, the hotel industry and other industries, as well, have embraced a strategy related to the diversification of services for businesspeople and tourists. Amid increasing cuisine and restaurant sophistication and refinement, the chefs' salaries are now in the range of thousands of euros in some cases and may go to as much as 10,000 euros per month, rivalling CEOs' pays.
The same project includes the expansion of the restaurant by building a covered terrace to be available to customers during winter months.
"We have a budget of 500,000 euros available for hotel improvements every year, with the money being a percentage of our annual earnings. However, this is a particularly extensive project and this is why special funds will be earmarked," Franz Rattenstetter, general manager of Crowne Plaza, told ZF. Ana Hotels owns Crowne Plaza hotel, which is operated under an InterContinental franchise.
According to Rattenstetter, the kitchen space will be expanded and there will be completely new interior equipment.
Crowne Plaza hotel has 165 rooms and suites and ten conference halls. Last year, the company's revenues amounted to 10 million euros.
Last year, George Copos strengthened his position on the five-star hotel market, by acquiring Hilton hotel in Bucharest. The acquisition was challenged in court by Tehnofrig Cluj-Napoca company, with Copos winning the litigation.
Ana Hotels includes seven hotels in its portfolio, of which two five-star hotels in Bucharest - Crowne Plaza and Athenee Palace Hilton, three hotels in Poiana Brasov mountain resort (Sport, Bradul, Poiana), while the rest of assets are on the Black Sea Coast, in Eforie Nord resort: Europa, Astoria hotels and Ana Aslan Health Spa health centre.
