Dacia Logan, an alternative to second-hand cars

27.09.2004, 00:00 15

The recently launched Dacia Logan will compete against second-hand cars on Western European markets, therefore it will not benefit from too much advertising, Luc Alexandre Menard, Renault's head of international operations and Dacia president, told the Auto Show in Paris.

"The car will be bought by young families with low incomes. We are practically attacking the second-hand cars market with Dacia Logan. In France, for instance, transactions with used cars are annually three times higher than those with new ones," stated Menard, who compared the Logan model with discount airlines that are currently thriving in Europe due to their very low prices. "The price will be the best advertising," said Menard.

Though the management of the French Renault group had announced Dacia Logan would be sold in Western Europe, the model could not be launched in Paris together with the world's top car models.

"We would have undoubtedly wanted Dacia Logan to be present during this event. Yet, it had been only shortly decided that Dacia Logan would be sold in Western Europe and we did not find the time to come up with our own stand," Menard explained.

Dacia Logan was however present through some informative materials distributed by hostesses at the Renault stand, about the brand's launch in the West.

"Only E1 and E2 models (above the basic E0 model of 5,000 euros) will be sold, and prices will start at 7,500 euros," Menard said. By comparison, for E1 and E2 models sold on the Romanian market, prices start from 5,700 euros.
