Deliveries abroad drive business of courier companies up

The big players on the courier market, UPS, DHL, and DPD(formerly Pegasus), say their turnovers were up by up to 20% in thefirst nine months of the year amid an increase in parcel deliveriesabroad.


"The volume of parcels delivered by road to Germany, France,Spain, Italy and other countries have doubled against 2009.International deliveries will contribute around 10% of this year'sturnover, compared with a little under 5% a year ago," said SorinGhinescu, marketing manager of DPD.
In the first nine months of this year, the volume of parcelsdelivered by DPD rose by 20% against the similar period of lastyear, on a market put at 200 million euros, with other playersbeing TNT, Fan Courier, UPS, TCE, DHL, and others.
UPS Romania, a part of American giant UPS, also reported a 20% risein the volume of parcels delivered compared with the similar periodof last year.
"Deliveries to and from Romania saw DHL International achieve atwo-digit rise in the first nine months of the year against thesimilar period of last year," said representatives of DHL, whichacquired local company Cargus in 2008.
