Deutsche Bahn cuts 300 jobs at former Romtrans following reorganisation

Giant German Deutsche Bahn transporter cut 300 jobs afterreorganisation of Romanian-based Schenker Romtrans, which resultedfrom the merger last year of Schenker and freight forwarderRomtrans.
At present Schenker Romtrans, which carries freight by road, byrail, by air, and by sea, has 1,144 employees, 20% fewer than in2008. After all the steps taken by the company management,officials announced they were expecting a 294 million-RON (70.5million-euro) turnover, similar to last year's euro-denominatedturnover, and up 15% in RON. The bulk of the company's business isgenerated by international freight transport. "Exports willcontribute 58% of this year's turnover, compared with 52% lastyear," company officials say.
At the end of 2008, DB Schenker, one of the world's biggestproviders of transportation services, a subsidiary of DeutscheBank, with 19 billion euros in turnover across 130 countries, paid90 million euros to take over Romtrans freight forwarder.
