DHL Romania to invest over 1.3m euros in expansion

13.07.2005, 19:49 7

DHL International Romania, one of the leading players in Romania for international courier services, is planning to implement an over 1.3 million-euro investment plan for the development of its transport network.

"We have already invested heavily in improving our transport capacity this year for the plane that serves Bucharest and the Eastern region. We want to continue our investment by expanding our fleet of vehicles, opening a terminal to be used solely for international road shipments, and opening new shipping centres," explained Gian Sharp, country manager with DHL International Romania.

Investment in vehicles and developing computer infrastructure in 2004 came to 0.5 million euros. Further investment was made in a new plane that will operate exclusively in the Western area of the country, the opening of a new operational hub in Arad, a new shipping hub in Bucharest and the modernisation of the existing hubs in Brasov and Oradea.

Finance Ministry data show the company generated 10.7 million euros in turnover in 2003.

"The company made 30% higher turnover in 2004 compared with 2003. Our forecasts for 2005 are optimistic and we expect an even higher growth rate than in 2004," added Sharp.

Through its three divisions, DHL Express, DHL Freight and DHL Logistics, DHL International Romania provides fast international courier services for documents and parcels, terrestrial shipping of parcels, cargo transport, complex logistics services, and insurance.

DHL International Romania first began operations in Romania in 1984, initially through a state authorised agent and later on its own as of 1991. It employs 350 people at its 25 hubs throughout the country.
