Dobrogea predicts 30% sales surge

18.05.2004, 00:00 7

Constanta-based milling and bakery group Dobrogea forecasts turnover of 75.4 million euros for this year, some 30% higher as compared to 2003.

"The expected sales growth will be prompted by expansion on the foreign markets and by the development of the milling and bakery sector," says Fotini Teodorescu, chairman of Dobrogea Group. According to Teodorescu, the company's turnover went up about 48% in Q1 2004 from the same time last year. "We are optimistic about this year's results and hope for a stronger milling and bakery sector and especially bigger exports," says Teodorescu.

The Dobrogea manager did not specify what products the company would sell on the foreign markets.

According to the company's data, Dobrogea accounts for 70% of the bread sales in Constanta and 60% of the packaged and wholesale flour. "Market research drawn up last year shows that our products are getting to 20% of our country's population," Teodorescu says. The company owns several brands: Dobrogea (flour, corn flour and semolina), Dan Do Pan (complex bakery additives), Pasta Magica (pasta), Captain Cranz, Matina, Funky Mix, Choco and Diet (breakfast cereals for children and adults), Neptun, Litoral Digesta and Total (bread and bakery specialties with cereals).

The company secures its raw materials from the domestic market, as well as through imports, considering last year's unprecedented grain crisis in Romania.
